The Sanskrit Om symbol is a sacred Hindu symbol but other vesions are present in other cultures such as Buddhism and Jainism.  It represents Brahman, the Absolute, all that is both the manifest and unmanifest nature of God.  The Mandukya Upanishad is entirely dedicated to the explanation of 'Om'.
